The 70th BFI London Film Festival will take place from 7 to 18 October 2026. The festival has announced the films that have been selected for the Official Competition and will be in the running for the top prize for Best Film.
The competition features 10 films by directors from the UK, Ireland, Brazil, Denmark, France, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Japan and Poland. The programme brings together feature films and documentaries, showcasing a variety of cinematic approaches and stories.
Among the competition entries are works by Hirokazu Kore-eda, Sergei Loznitsa, Carol Morley, Lili Horvát, Benjamín Naishtat, Christine Molloy and Joe Lawlor, Giovanni Tortorici, Małgorzata Szumowska and Michał Englert, Rubaiyat Hossain and May el-Toukhy.
The winner of the Best Film Award will be announced on 18 October. The remaining competition categories, including Best Documentary, Best First Feature and the Short Film Award, will be announced in September.
