The British Film Institute (BFI) has announced the allocation of £14.6 million from National Lottery funds to three programmes aimed at developing education and early career skills among children and young people aged between 5 and 18.
Funding will be provided to Into Film and the National Saturday Club. Over the next three years, the organisations will develop the Teaching with Film, Young Creatives and Careers and Progression programmes across the UK.
The programme’s main areas of focus are:
- developing teaching using film and moving images in schools;
- creating opportunities for young people to develop film-making skills and learn about careers in the screen industries;
- developing career programmes in film, television, animation, VFX and games;
- expanding access to educational and creative opportunities for children and young people from areas with higher levels of socio-economic deprivation.
As part of this funding, Into Film plans to facilitate 270,000 engagements with educational resources, train up to 9,000 teachers, organise annual film clubs and deliver over 33,500 direct engagements with young people, educators and parents.
The National Saturday Club will continue to develop its network of free Film & Screen Clubs across the UK, providing screen literacy opportunities for approximately 2,225 young people aged 13–16.
